Our research has discovered lots of advice and ideas about self and body care during puberty and periods. Here are a few tips and tricks:

  • It’s a myth that it’s unhealthy for a girl to shower when she has her period. In fact, showering once or twice a day can help her feel clean, reduce body odors, help prevent pimples caused by increased levels of oil the body is producing, and even help with some of the emotions she might be feeling!

  • Products like pads and tampons should be changed every few hours, but if a leak happens, washing with soap and cold water will help get the stains out of clothes or sheets.

  • Carrying an extra product or two just in case can help make sure your teen is always ready, but some rolled up toilet paper placed in the underwear can help until there’s a pad or tampon available.
